Welcome

Holy Cross School, established in 1929, is one of the oldest Catholic elementary schools in Indiana.  Founded by the Congregation of Holy Cross, the school was built even before the church building was established.  The Holy Cross priests and brothers recognized the importance of a school in their new parish.  Holy Cross School was to be a place where faith could be taught, nurtured, and practiced freely.  For over 85 years Holy Cross School has endured and prospered, standing as a testimony to the faith, hope, and courage of ‘west side’ South Bend immigrants.

For a short week, Ho

For a short week, Holy Cross Grade School has certainly been busy — and we still have Friday to wrap up the 2025–2026 school year! Here are some pictures from the 8th Grade Graduation Mass on Tuesday, the 3rd–7th Grade Awards Ceremony yesterday, and today’s firetruck visit.

Just a friendly reminder that Mass on Friday, May 29, will be at 10:30 a.m. Following dismissal from Mass, we will have a reception in the gym honoring Mrs. Kucela and Mrs. Manier. Please feel free to stop by and say goodbye to these wonderful ladies.

What a week! It was

What a week! It was filled with activities across all grade levels and lots of emotions as we said goodbye to our 8th graders on their last day of school.

As always, we wrapped up their last dayday with our annual Students vs. Teachers volleyball game — and this year, the students came out on top with a final score of 51–41!

Please enjoy these snapshots from our busy and memorable week. Videos from the volleyball game will be posted separately.

Wishing everyone a wonderful long weekend!

HEY HOLY CROSS CRUSA

HEY HOLY CROSS CRUSADERS (PAST AND PRESENT): I'M TALKIN' TO YOU!

My loving, brilliant, incredible mother Melissa Manier is officially retiring from Holy Cross Grade School after 20+ years of service as everybody's favorite 2nd grade teacher. And I need YOU to help celebrate her.

Maybe you worked with my mom. Maybe she taught you, or your children, or your grandchildren. Maybe she gave you a gentle smile and a wave from afar after Sunday mass every week.

Maybe she directed you in a school play. Maybe you were lucky enough to have her as the touring music teacher waaay back in the day, roaming from room to room with her cart of musical magic.

Her time with Holy Cross has been long and illustrious, and I know how much the community means to her. I also know how much she means to the community-- but I'm not sure *she* does.

That's why I would love to honor her career with a collection of letters, stories, appreciations, thank you's, and maybe even some pictures from over the years. We're puttin' together a scrapbook.

SO THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN: If you had the good fortune to cross paths with Mrs. Manier at any point during her time as a teacher, tell her about what that meant to you. Write her a letter at thankyoumrsmanier@gmail.com and I'll compile them all into an ornate keepsake for her to look back on for decades to come. (And trust me: she WILL look back on it. Over and over and over. So make it count!)

Please reach out to me by no later than WEDNESDAY, MAY 27.

And finally, PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD FAR AND WIDE! The post is hidden from her, so she's in the dark, but I want as many Crusaders to see this as possible; she deserves nothing less.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

Best,

Miranda Manier

What a busy and wond

What a busy and wonderful week we had at Holy Cross Grade School! From celebrating Teacher's Appreciation Week to welcoming the Fishoff Quartet, who performed for our 4th graders and inspired them through music, it was truly a special time for our students.

HASA treated our teachers to something special each day — Taco Tuesday, a variety of breakfasts, build-your-own flower arrangements, and many other thoughtful surprises throughout the week. Thank you!

We also celebrated our 2nd graders who made their First Communion last weekend, and we honored Mary with our beautiful May Crowning ceremony, led by our 7th graders and Father Noah.

It was a busy week at Holy Cross Grade School! Despite a two-hour delay on Tuesday, we welcomed Mike Brown, Notre Dame’s first African-American mascot, who shared his books with our PreK–2nd grade students. Classes also celebrated St. Patrick’s Day in various ways. On Wednesday, we had a great turnout for STEM Family Night, and on Thursday, we celebrated St. Joseph’s Feast Day with a special Mass and a Sicilian traditional luncheon for our students, generously donated by the Agostino family. Thank you to everyone who helped make this week special—God bless! 🙏🏼
